Rub-a-dub-dub...

During Teacher Appreciation week, we decided to throw a baby shower for one of the 2nd grade teachers. Was she one of Levi's or KateLynn's teachers? "No," you say? This begs the question, WHY am I throwing a baby shower? Well, it's quite simple....I'm nuts! =) The kids may not have ever had her as a teacher officially, but she has always been so nice to my kids and they love her all the same....so, I talked to the room moms & asked if I could help them with the shower. I'm sure their first thought was, "Uh, will we be working with a nutcase if we say 'yes'?" ;-) lol And the answer to that is, "absolutely!" Let the craziness begin....The room moms were very easy to work with...meaning, they let me run with it & took all of my suggestions (except one - we'll get to that later.) Since the teacher was having a boy, I thought it would be cool to do a Rubber Ducky theme because the colors are blue & yellow....very pretty. The surprise shower was held in the art room after lunch. On the invitations that we sent home, we told the kids to leave their presents in the front office, so the teacher wouldn't see the presents. Then, we sent the teacher on a 'scavenger hunt' so we could get the kids out of the classroom and to the art room for the surprise. Here are some of the party details...

Decorations:
The table:The presents table & treat table:"It's a Boy"...notice the apostrophe is a clothes pin!I tried to coordinate the colors of my outfit to match the party...I didn't have yellow, so orange was the next best thing.I used cotton balls to resemble bubbles...Notice the cutout 'ducks feet' under the serving plates & displayed presents...The poem we used for the invitations...I displayed on the table as decor.Surprise!
The kids put on shower caps & had their own bubbles to blow to stick with the bathtub theme. There were 3 clues to the scavenger hunt and each one had a letter that would spell out A-R-T (for the art room.) When she got to the door she had to knock & say "Rubber ducky you're the one. You make bath time so much fun. I have my bathrobe and some shower gel, now bring me some scrub so all is well!" lol She was completely surprised! When she started crying, we all started balling...what a bunch of emotional women! =)Say "Cheese":
Refreshments:
Rubber Duck Feet Sugar Cookies:
These cookies were monsterously big, but they were yummy! I don't think I had enough flour in the dough because they spread like crazy...Marshmallow Pops:Splish Splash Cupcakes:
I wasn't in charge of these because if I was, I would have put mini marshmallows on them to look like bubbles...Bathwater Punch:
This was yummy! It had blue kool-aid, sugar, white grape juice, ginger-ale, & pineapple sherbertWe had blue & yellow sippy cups for the kids & a baby bottle for the teacher...Candy duck favors:Peeps:
I don't care what you say...these are not chicks, they're ducks =)Digging In...Hunter was waiting all morning to grab one of those marshmallow pops and couldn't wait any longer! The teacher drank her punch from a bottle: LOL! What a good sport!Games:
Baby Relay...
The 1st game we did was with the kids. We divided the teams, boys against girls. Each team member took turns doing a task for the 'baby.' Like, putting on a diaper, putting on socks, or giving it a pacifier. The first team to complete all of the tasks won. The girls were the winners! But the boys were close behind...Name the Baby Food...
The 2nd game was for the teacher. We removed the labels on some baby food I had and the teacher had to taste & guess what they were. The kids thought this was hilarious & the teacher's facial expressions were priceless. However, my original idea was not this one. I wanted the teacher to have to "Name that Poop" where she would have to name the candy bars that were melted in different diapers, but that was the one thing the room moms vetoed! lol She got 4 out of 7 right...Gifts:
After all of the games & refreshments, it was time to open gifts...I made these onesies look like lollipops by rolling them up and attached them to sticks. Aren't they so cute!? I saw this online and new I could make them myself. I usually make a diaper cake, but since one of the room moms wanted to do that, I thought this idea would be perfect. We also had a big baby bottle filled with gummy worms, with this note attached to it:The other gift I put together was a 'Baby Advice Book.' The room mom interviewed each of the children & asked them to give the teacher baby advice. Then, she gave me that info so I could put it in a book with their picture. Then, we had the kids sign it for the teacher. The diaper cake the room mom made...She did an awesome job!! But the best part is the diapers she put in the cake have hand written notes on each one from the kids. "What?" you say. That's right! We had the kids write letters of appreciation on the diapers with a Sharpie, so when she uses the diapers at home she will have a little something to remember the kids by. Brilliant, right?! I read the idea from a teaching blog somewhere...
Some shots of the kids:
Bubbles:I would say the shower was a success since we made the teacher cry twice! Hunter had so much fun! Before we left, he went around collecting all of the rubber duckies. Oh, and by-the-way, Happy 5th b-day, Hunter! You, were a big help...

Awh, that turned out so good. I can't believe all the other Moms were stick in the muds and wouldn't do the poop game. Everybody loves that game. And might I add is a lot better than tasting baby food. Nobody like to eat baby food. Now that is GROSS!
