Mother of the Year?....Not Me!

Let me just say, I'm a horrible mother! Hunter has been talking about having a "car" birthday party for the longest time...probably for about 9 months or more. He loves anything with wheels. Unfortunately, for him his birthday fell on "teacher appreciation week." Needless to say, I was so busy planning for the teachers & planning a teacher's baby shower, that we didn't celebrate his birthday or have cake until last minute. On his birthday, he was there at the school with me throwing a baby shower (I will be posting pictures soon.) He kept telling everyone he was 5 and to sing happy birthday to him....how sad for him. =(

Anyway, Jim gave me such a hard time about what a bad mother I was because I didn't do anything special for him, but I would do things for others. I felt so guilty, so Sat. morning I decided to kick it into high gear & put together a special "surprise" party for Hunter. We went to Wal-mart to pick up a few black plastic table clothes, 3 boxes, & a gasoline can, plus a couple of presents for Hunter. Here's what I came up with last minute for Hunter....

Hunter's Car Themed Party Elements:

Levi cutting the white stripes for the road:
(KateLynn & Levi helped a ton with the decorations!)"Surprise!!"The Pit Stop:The "Body Shop":
The kids got to decorate their "cars" (boxes) however they wanted. Hunter put one wheel on each side, instead of 2 on each side...=)Logan chillin':Test Run:
Hunter wouldn't stop running up and down the "road"...he loved it! =)"Fueling Up" with some great punch!
*Welch's white grape peach juice & ginger ale...
Hunter's Car Shop:Modeling the "Cars"...
KateLynn had a USC car!
Races:
Ready to go... And they're off!(Levi & KateLynn had to race Hunter backwards to even up the race =))Hunter counting down to "go" for KateLynn & Levi's race:
Tie!!! (they had to race 5 times b/c of ties)"foot races"
after the "cars" they decided to race on foot...Presents:The Cake:
Before decorated...I put some of Hunter's dump trucks on the cake:
"Happy Birthday to You!"

Way to cover up that his birthday wasn't important! Cute ideas and looked like a lot of fun!

And talk about bad mommy!--I'm pretty sure that gas can isn't food grade plastic. :-)

My favorite was the fuel container for the punch bowl. I'm assuming that is a brand new gas container and not a used one. Other wise yes you would be a bad mother.

You're so creative. I'm sure the kids had a blast

I am so glad you actually gave him his Party! I think Birthdays are NEVER to be forgotten, st least while you're a kid. Something about Del Priore's and not having them JUST KILLS ME!!!!!! I grew up totally different.
And yes i like the gas tank/punch bowl! I would never thought of that!!!
