This weekend, was General Conference. I love to get to sit & listen to the messages given to us from the servants of the Lord. However, with small kids, it's not always the easiest thing to do! So this year we decided to try something new...
First, we had a FHE about King Benjamin & his people. We told the story of how the people gathered at the temple to hear the words of King Benjamin: "And they pitched their tents round about the temple, every man having his tent with the door thereof towards the temple, that thereby they might remain in their tents and hear the words which king Benjamin should speak unto them;" Mosiah 2:6 We told the kids that we were also about to gather our family together to listen to what the Lord wants us to hear. We asked if they wanted to build a "fort/tent" like king Benjamin's people. Of course they were like, "YES!" So here is the tent that we built out of sheets. The catch was, they had to be reverent, so the tent wouldn't fall down on our heads! =)

We also told the kids that we would be "feasting" on the words of the prophet (& the Lord.) We would do this by listening closely to what the speakers had to say & when we heard the word printed on that cup, they would be able to eat a snack from that cup. I printed different words for Levi & KateLynn, but for Hunter, I printed off pictures to represent the same words. I put the plastic cups in a cupcake pan, so everyone would have their own "tray."

I was originally going to do bite size pb&j sandwiches, but we had just had lunch so I decided to do lighter snacks. I had popcorn, carrots, cucumbers, (ranch dip for veggies), cheez-its, skittles, m&m's, Jr. Mints, marshmallows, & mini oreos. It worked so well!!!!!! The kids had a blast & were paying closer attention to the words than mom & dad! It became a competition to see who could hear someone say one of the words first. I think next conference, it would be fun to make up different "themed" snack trays. Maybe, a breakfast one with bite size pancakes to dip in syrup, bacon pieces, & fruit.
