The Magic Potion!

Ok, so I did this "Magic Potion" thing for my Singing Time a couple of Sundays ago and it was a huge hit! You have different cups of water with vinegar and different spoons with food coloring covered with baking soda. When the kids pick a spoon and stir it in the water, the water bubbles and changes different colors. I had printed the words to the song I was teaching (Called to Serve) on different colored papers to match my food coloring. When the kids picked a certain color, I would remove that color paper, so they would have less visuals to go by. It worked great! When we got home the kids wanted to do it again, so I set it up for the kids to do and took pictures. Oh yeah, this past Sunday when the counselor announced that I was doing Singing Time, the kids said "Alright!" and were so excited...that made me feel pretty good, because the kids don't show very much excitement.

That looks like so much fun that I'm trying to think of an excuse of how I can use it for something...

Levi's face is awesome! It says it all.

You are so creative! It's nice to see you being able to apply the talents that the Lord gave you to furthering His work. Your mom would be proud!

I would like to do this activity on Sunday. It looks so fun and I have the entire sharing time and singing time this week. So, did you mix water and vinegar in each cup, or water in all cups but one, or vinegar in all cups? Then was each phrase written out in a corresponding water color or each word? Thank you

When you did this did you put vinegar in all the cups? Vinegar and water mixed together in all the cups? Water in all the cups but one, with vinegar in it? Did you print phrases in corresponding colors to the food coloring or individual words printed in corresponding colors to the food coloring? Thank you. This looks like such a fun idea to do this Sunday when I have the entire sharing/singing time to do singing.

I had water & vinegar in EACH cup (1/2 & 1/2) This way every cup would bubble over. You will need them in a pan b/c they will fizz.

As far as the paper goes, it depends on how long your song is. Called to Serve was long, so I did a phrase on each colored paper. But you can do words if it's a shorter song. I picked colored paper to match all of my colored cups, so I had 8 colors. I used food color that was basic & florescent colors. You could also do black.

Another thing you can do is use this to "pick" which song you will be singing. On the colored papers you could write the Name of the song to sing. This would be good if you didn't want to concentrate on just on song like I did.

Good luck! The kids will love it!
