Wednesday was the 3rd grade field trip. Only 2 parents from each class could help chaperon, so I was excited to be able to help out. We got to spend the day in downtown McKinney at Chestnut Square. If you've never been there, you really should. It's a "square" of historic homes and buildings from the 1800's to early 1900's. The buildings are originals that haven't been moved but a block or so for positioning. The tours are great because it's always fun to hear the stories of the families and homes.
I must admit that I probably found more pleasure in this tour than most, because everything reminded me so much of my great aunt Mamie. Growing up, Mamie was like my grandmother from my mom's side because my grandma died before I was born. Anyway, the homes and furnishings were JUST LIKE Mamie's home when we would visit! I think I got a little home sick from the tour.
The kids also got to try out "old" living at the Historic Society. They had to barter at the local store, try on clothes, look at simple machines they used, played their games, and cooked and cleaned in a log cabin. The kids had so much fun!

That sounds neat. I wish there was stuff like that here. I miss Mamie too.
